lake placid dining    Lake Placid is located in the Adirondack mountains which where carved out of some of the oldest rocks on the planet.   This makes a perfect scene for some of the oldest resorts and vacation destinations in the entire United States. People have been vacationing to this Adirondack wonderland since the late 1800s.  in the early 1900's Affluent families from New York built Adirondack camps or log summers homes on Lake Placid and the Saranac Lakes.  Much of these original camps are still there today and are not accessible by road, a boat must be used to reach the property during the summer and by snow mobile in the winter months.  Over the years Lake Placid has been home to the 1980 winter Olympics where the USA hockey team stuck it to the Russians and in 2000 lake placid hosted the Good Will Games. All of the winter sports facilities remain in Lake Placid and it has become a training ground for athletes from around the world.  In the winter you can attend these world cup sporting events or use the facilities for your own enjoyment.
